FAQ
Common questions
Who can join ICD?
ICD is open to college and university professors, graduate students, and serious undergraduates interested in classical discussion. We also welcome independent scholars and lifelong learners.
Does it cost anything?
Basic forum access is free. Facilitated seminars may carry a modest fee to cover facilitator honoraria and platform costs. We believe cost should never be a barrier to great conversation.
What texts do you discuss?
We focus on the great works of philosophy, literature, theology, history, and political theory — from Homer and Plato to Dostoevsky, Austen, and beyond. Our facilitators propose texts; our community shapes the conversation.
How are seminars different from the forum?
Seminars are structured, facilitated reading groups that meet on a set schedule over several weeks. The forum hosts ongoing, open-ended discussions. Many members participate in both.
Can I use ICD in my classroom?
Absolutely — that’s a core part of our mission. Many professors integrate ICD seminars and forum discussions directly into their courses. Our Resources section has guides for getting started.
